 Since their arrival at Stella Niagara
in 1908, the Sisters
followed the scriptural injunction of St. Paul, "Make hospitality your
special care, for by doing so many have entertained angels." (Rom. 12:13) In the early
years, they accepted as summer guests women and children from the cities. Later
they welcomed women to Stella Niagara for summer retreats.
In 1974, the Sisters expanded their
mission of hospitality by founding the Center of Renewal. The retreat programs attracted priests, Sisters, and lay people
from around
the world.
In 1997, the center began to focus
entirely on the ministry of hospitality, and discontinued its retreat programs.
In this new life, the center has been well used. Many groups have been religious
in nature and have chosen the facility for retreat purposes.
Other visitors come for private
retreats, family reunions, business conferences, college or university events,
and various Elderhostel programs.
Visitors from all faiths, backgrounds,
and income levels are welcome. For those who show a financial need, the center
offers scholarship possibilities.
The beautiful grounds, the comfortable accommodations,
the friendly staff, and the presence of the Sisters demonstrate the spirit of
hospitality at the Center of Renewal.
MISSION STATEMENT OF THE CENTER OF RENEWAL
The Center of Renewal, Inc. at Stella Niagara is a
community of service. In the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, we provide
hospitality, promote spiritual growth, and foster the development of people.
Individuals and groups are welcome to this environment of peace and beauty.
