Development Office

[Shopping?]

The Development Office raises funds to help us care for our ill and elderly sisters, and to support our ministries in the United States and missions in Africa and Mexico.

The Sisters of St. Francis serve as elementary and secondary teachers, social workers, counselors, parish ministers, soup kitchens workers, and in programs to the poor and under-served.  They lovingly support and care for their senior members at Stella Niagara and throughout Holy Name Province.  Please contact the Development Office for more information on how you may help support the Sisters' and our ministries, fund14144@yahoo.com or 716 754 2193.

Many thanks to our generous donors for helping to keep our ill and elderly Sisters independent and active. Fundraising projects have included the purchase of a new wheelchair van, electric beds and telephones for each other Sister's rooms. The Sisters expressed over and over their gratitude to our donors and friends for making all of this possible through their generous donations.

Development funds also support ministries, which include Ss. Columba-Brigid Montessori, Buffalo, NY, and St. Lawrence Parent’s Night Out, both in Buffalo, NY, and St. Francis Center in McArthur, OH.  The Sisters raise money for their missions serving the poor in Chiapas, Mexico and Tanzania, Africa.

The Medical Mission teams treated a combined total of 1,200+ patients in November 2006 and February 2007. As they served the indigenous poor who are descendents of the Ancient Mayans, they encountered persons with dirty water diseases, skin problems, poor nutrition, rheumatoid arthritis, and leprosy. For the first time, in February, an optometrist joined the team to provide eye exams and glasses. The missions provide training in personal health care as well as acute medical care. God's providence shines brightly through their goodness to the poor.

Dr. Robert Bull, Jr. stands beside the new truck at the mission, purchased through generous gifts from the Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario / Lewiston, New York Rotary Club and Seton Institute of California. The truck provides transportation to the 125 villages served by the Sisters in and around Palenque. It is also the means of transportation to villages when the Medical Missions take place in November and in February.

Teaching English as a second language in Tanzania, East Africa, to Swahili speaking Aspirants, Postulants, Novices and young Professed Sisters was quite a test for Sister Marcella Kiesel. "Challenging but so very rewarding! God bless the new Daughters of Mother Magdalen in Tanzania! "
