Sisters take a ride on the Jet Boat in Lewiston, NY

John Kinney, the owner of the Jetboat and Emery Simon, a Lewiston businessman (and the younger brother of Nan Simon) took ten of the Sisters (average age 80!) on a wonderful Jetboat trip on the beautiful Niagara River. The trip started at the Lewiston dock; we traveled downriver to see Stella; and upriver past Artpark, the Lewiston Queenston Bridge, Niagara University and Devils Hole. The scenery was magnificent with bright sunlight showing the massive stone walls of the gorge and the changing leaves to full advantage. John Kinney skillfully skirted the rapids so that we could enjoy the trip without losing headgear or glasses and we remained much drier than the typical Jetboat passengers.

Vision Circle Gathering - Denver, Colorado July 2010

Approximately 150 sisters and associates gathered  in the Spirit of Mother Magdalen to contemplate and celebrate the NEW THING that God is doing. Aware of their shared history, their diversity, and their Franciscan Presence across North America, they explored the ways of embodying this PRESENCE. They shared with one another the ways that they are moving forward into PRACTICE and POSSIBILITY.

(L to R) Sister Sue Artone-Fricke gives a tour of the new facility, Casa Chiara, at Marycrest before the gathering. Sister Margie Will, facilitator for the meetings leads the sisters and associates in discussion. Sister Maureen Sinnott and Sister Paula Fox compare notes.

Center of Renewal Celebrates 35th Anniversary!

Thirty five years ago the Sisters of St. Francis began the ministry of a retreat center at Stella Niagara. Over the years, the Center has expanded its mission of hospiality to include private retreats, sponsored programs as well as  providing meeting space for many different religious congregations. At the  anniversary celebration, Niagara University was recognized for its varied ways of collaboration in helping the Center achieve its mission.

CORPORATE COMMITMENT
TO PEACE

The Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity gathered June 28, 2003 - July 1, 2003 at Stella Niagara, NY and discussed ways they could make a more visible corporate commitment to peace.

The Provincial Council, the governing body of the Sisters, has been empowered to financially support the work of Franciscans International and Pax Christi USA and each Sister and associate of the community has been encouraged to do the same.

The leadership may endorse documents  for peace written by Franciscans International, Pax Christi USA, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, the Franciscan Federation and/or the other provinces of the Sisters of St. Francis throughout the world. To spread this message, materials on peace will be included in the various publications of the Congregation.

Sisters and associates will make personal commitments to working for peace in their ministries. The leadership of the sponsored institutions of the Sisters will be challenged to implement this commitment.

We invite you to light a candle and pray with us the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi:

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light, and

Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive'

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

We wish you peace and all good,

Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity
